Candles & Scents

Invented in the mid-19th century, the candle takes its name from the “candle” city (Bugaya in Arabic) in Algeria. This town supplied most of the wax used in candle making. Invented 3000 years BC, the candle, ancestor of the candle, then competed with the oil lamp from the Middle Ages. Traditionally, the candle was made of rushes directly dipped in animal or vegetable fat: tallow! Once the rushes were soaked in fat, they were left for several hours in the open air to harden them. Today candles are an integral part of our decoration. Colorful, twisted, graphic and always poetic, candles breathe new life and invade our interiors. Alone to catch the eye or in accumulation to create an impactful ensemble, candles are a sure bet!
